The Education Bursary is a limited fund aimed at assisting former political prisoners, displaced persons and their families with tuition costs in education, training and personal development. The distribution of the bursary is managed on an equitable basis by a panel representing a geographical spread of the Coiste network. All applications go before the panel within an anonymous system and are considered totally on merit. In order to be considered for a bursary the applicant must fulfil the following criteria. 

 

Education Bursary Criteria

 

Applications are considered on the following basis:

 

  1. That the applicant is a former political prisoner or family member or a displaced person or family member

 

  1. Only requests for assistance in payment of course fees or training tuition can be considered. Criteria will not allow for payment of any other costs incurred, including course materials, subsistence or travel.

 

  1. That all costs requested to be covered by the bursary can be verified by original receipts/invoices/ or other documentation that may be applicable.

 

  1. Driving lessons are available to the political ex prisoner/displaced persons and immediate family members. Only approved driving instructors can be used.

 

  1. That the applicant provides, along with the completed application form, supporting rationale as to why they chose to enrol with a particular college or training provider.

 

 

  1. Completed forms and supporting documentation will not be considered unless they are processed through a local Coiste political ex prisoner support centre. (See attached sheet for contacts)

 

Criteria will be kept under review and may be subject to change depending on availability of funds
